Well, I am a student from Singapore, and our equivalent of the last two years of American high school is Junior College, where we study towards the (singapore-cambridge) A levels.

Now, I am 15, and for me next year would be the last year of secondary school, which is the second year of American high school.

Well, I like Penn a lot, and I am thinking if I could take the SATs now, and apply, would that be OK by the Adcoms? Would Penn consider accepting me, if say I get like a near perfect score on the SAT plus good recs.

I know of a guy who got into Caltech purely by SATs and without A levels or the sort. But Penn? How about other top business schools like Haas (Berkeley)... etc??

Thank you all...

We friends had a chat, and someone said when you manage to get a PhD degree, it doesn't matter where you study, the certificate's values are the same.

I suppose a graduate from Ivys (Harvard, Yale, etc) are still regarded as better ones - at least that is the common perception, which does not necessarily reflect the truth.

But apart from these universities, is it true that your PhD degrees are considered being equal in value, whether you study in France, Russia, or China?

by which time my son will be about a year old.

i was hoping to just pay for my sons childcare, as he will be under 3, but free early education for my daughter is only for 12.5 hours a week. if i get a job with more hours than that, i will have to pay for those hours.

None of the part-time roles i have seen are for as little as 12.5 hours a week, at best they are for 22-25 hours per week.

i had always assumed that from age 3, childcare was free for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week - so thats about 40 hours per week.

I am interested to know how other mothers are coping with childcare costs.

they mostly reflect how you cooperated by doing what the teachers said. They also reflect whether your teacher like you. Grades don't mean you can't read, write or think. they don't show whether you can find out how to do something you believe in and then follow through and do it.They don't show the most fundemental aspect of intelligence whether you learn from your experiences and mistakes. they don't show whether you live with courage, compassion, curiosity, or common sense. This is a passage from Grace Llewellyn book "The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education. Do you agree or disagree? I disagree. What is your take on this passage?
