I noticed that Ivy league schools only offer non career specific majors like economics rather than accounting, bussiness management....When I flipped thru the job section of newspaper's classifieds, companies are more willing to recruit workers who have a career specific degree. So what do you do with your Ivy league degree when you do not have enough credentials to really work unless you continue with a graduate degree? Let's say you completed ur Ivy League degree and you want to go on to grad school but do not have enough financial resources, wouldn't you be stuck in a rut? I know those non career specific degrees are supposed to make you into this critical thinking, genius person but you simply cannot survive just by being smart!

I need to nominate a student at my school for admision into the harvard athletic department. Last year i had received a letter from harvard asking to nominate any students that met certain requirements (academically/athletically) , but this year i did not. I have a 6 foot 3 , 300lb defensive tackle , senior who is more than capable of competing at the div 1,2,3 level. Academically he received a composite score of 28 on the ACT and has a 3.2 GPA, futhermore, he has taken several "advanced" classes. Im just trying to find out how I go about relaying this information to Harvard , I know that it was one of his first choices but so far he has already been offered several full-rides to other local universities. Thank-you in advance for any information.

Are your chances better if you attend an Ivy League for your undergraduate degree, but only managed to obtain average scores; or attend a mediocre college, but ranked the top few % of your class? Do admission officers take into consideration your non academic activities, work experience, or just your undergraduate major? Are your chances of admittance better if you obtained your undergrad degree from the same university you are applying for a graduate degree?
