Make a common denomanator. if you need to add 2/4 and 2/8 then just make them both into 8Th's. so 2*2=4 and 4*2=8 so 4/8 and 2/8 = 6/8...it's simple once you get the hang of it. Just try to see what number both denominator's will go into!

If the fraction's denominator are the same, the just add the numerator and keep the denominator. If the denominators are different, then find a common denominator.
For example:
3/4 + 4/6=?
common multiple of of 4 and 6:12 (4*3=12,6*2=12)

Whatever you do to the bottom you do to the top.

So,3*3=12 So 3/4=9/12

4*2=8 8/12

9/12+8/12=17/12

There are 3 Simple Steps to add fractions:
Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same

Step 2: Add the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the the same denominator as in step 1

Step 3: Simplify the fraction.

2/4+4/2
2+8/4
10/4
5/2
2 1/2
So for adding fractions, first you have to find the common factors of the denominators. In my example, the common factor of the denominators 4 & 2 are 4. Then you have to add the numerators. After that to reduce it to simplest form, you have to divide the numerator and the denomnator by their greatest common factor. Then you have to write the fraction as a mixed number or as a improper fraction.

First, find the common denominator.
ex. 1/2 + 3/4 ----> the common denominator is 4.

Next, change the fractions into common numbers.
2/4 + 3/4

Finally, add the numerators and keep the denominators:
the answer becomes 5/4, which can also be written as 1 and 1/4

good luck :)

Find the common denominator first and then add them.
For example:
2/4 +1/2=?
common denominator is 4.
4 divided by 4 times 2 =2/4
4 divided by 2 times 1=2/4
2/4 + 2/4 =4/4 or 1

Make the denominator common, then reduce the answer.
Example:
3/4+5/6 --> 18/24+20/24 = 38/24, or 1 14/24 or 1 7/12

First off, you need a common denominator (which is the number on the bottom, or bellow the numerator). Then you can add. Adding and subtracting fractions is basic math and algebra. To multiply fractions, you just multiply across, then simplify (if you can). To divide fractions, you need to multiply by the reciprocol.

O.K.
you find the common denomenator and then add ONLY the numerators:
eg. 1/2 + 3/4 =
2/4 + 3/4=
5/4 = 1 1/4
O.k.?
