I am currenty in high school, and plan on entering the medical field. Although I have considered becoming a doctor, surgeon, etc., these choices seem too "boring". I would rather be working to find new cures for cancer, AIDS, or other types of medical disorders and working to advance medical science.

I'm not sure what type of degree I should pursue in college, and what path of study I should pursue in medical school. Any suggestions would be great.

I'm a 20-year-old English/Journalism major and junior in college. Lately I have been feeling the pulls of my childhood dream of being a Pediatrician, which I wanted to be from age 6 to 16, instead of a writer/magazine editor. I changed my mind to writing when I realized how much science/math was involved in the path to being a doctor. I used to be fairly good at math and science (AP classes), but I mentally started doubting myself in those areas, so I switched my career area to writing.
I love writing...but I'm starting to wonder if it's possible to even turn that into a successful career. I haven't taken any of the science/ math classes required for a Pre-Health major yet. Is it too late to switch majors and take the MCAT, or would I have to stay an extra two years?
Also...is it worth it?
Thanks for all your input.

I attended college right after highschool and totally met a mess of it. I earned all my credits but my GPA was too low to be awared my diploma. 10 years later I am wanting to "redeem " myself and attend grad school in order to make a career advance. I have been fortunate enough to be gainfully employed in my chosen field and I understand that my work experience could count towards grad admissions. My issue though is raising my undergrad GPA enough to be awarded my degree...Does anybody have any advice for me? Short of starting over again completely, I don't know where to start.
