I was just at a resteraunt last night with some friends and gratutiy was added into our bills. Are you expected to pay a tip as well or do they consider the gratuity a tip?

Not my usual type of question, I know, but we caught the end of some show last night and in the show, it mentioned a different show where they found the best pork tenderloin sandwich in Indiana. UNFORTUNATELY, last night's show was an ollld rerun, no longer on the network's website for info.

Or is it something I should ask individual restaurants about? Also, kind of a separate question, does the tasting menu give more "bang for the buck" than a la carte?

I'm going to meet some business people for lunch there. Never ate there so wanted to know what I should order that's not too messy and tastes good.

I was on an overnight layover from BWI back in 2003. A cab brought me to a hotel reccomended restraunt for dinner. I don't remeber the name of it, but it had the best crab cakes I ever had in my life. I will be traveling through that area again soon and would like to find that restraunt. From what I remeber, it was about 8-10 miles from BWI and was in a kind of a small shopping plaza or strip mall with an overhang around the front. There was a liquor store across the street and I had to wait about an hour in the parking lot just to get to the lounge it was so crowded. Does this sound familiar to any Baltimore natives?

You know, great at some locations, and lousy at others.

... quite attractive, actually. But, she believes she's getting lower tips (%) than the other waitstaff. She's not sure what she's doing wrong, or even IF she's doing something wrong. She averages about 17-20% per gross dollar which seems about right to me so it's possible that the other waitstaff are just pulling her leg in telling her what they make.

This is her first serving job and it's just a temporary thing but she's feeling like she's not doing a good job. She's never gotten a complaint from any customer (been there a month and a half) and in fact she's been commended a few times by customers. The place is a mid- to up-scale restaurant with latin cuisine.

Do you think that she's making about the right amount and that the other waitstaff are just pulling her leg -- or, is 17-20% low?

(Sorry for the long question. I just wanted to get all the info out there. Also, I asked this question on another category but I thought it would post here. Sorry for the repeat.)

I really like clam chowder. I live in California, so I'm wondering if anybody knows any good places here. Mostly Southern California, around the L.A. area. Additionally, where's the best place in America? I hear the New England area is great, but where specifically?
