Well there are a lot of variables to consider. Depending upon the restaurant would dictate if you should or not. If it's pizza, no need to tip. The service and counter help didn't really do anything to get your order together. But in some cases, the front counter/service staff do assemble your order once it is presented from the kitchen. They bag it, put in additions such as sauces, napkins, plates, or other items, and are often the ones that put it in the containers. Chances are if the person that rings you up, is a server in the restaurant they are still only making half of minimum wage, and survives on tips alone. And of course tip on good, fast and courteous service when applicable.

You definitely should. While you shouldn't tip the full 20%, 5-10% should be tipped. I work at a restaurant as a hostess, and I know that people are still preparing your food and packaging it so that you don't have to cook at home. Not only that, but it goes on the servers sales report, and at the end of the year, they get taxed on a percentage of their years sales. Plus, servers don't get to keep all of their tips. Generally, they tip 20% to their buskids and 5% to the bartenders. So, for every dollar they make, they only get .75 cents. They are still taking time out of their day to take your order, place it, cook it, and package it. So, I'd have to say that you should tip, even if it's small.

I reserve tipping for take-out only for the host/hostess, bartender, etc. that actually has to put all of the items together and bag them up for me. Also, I pay attention to whether they have charged the order on their server account. If so they are going to have to claim 15% of the total bill on their taxes, so a tip would be an appropriate gesture. However, if the person just throws the food in a bag, doesn't acknowledge me in a friendly manner, forgets utensils or condiments, etc. then I will give them the gracious treatment that they have given me and leave without leaving a gratuity.

5-10% tip for takeout, relies upon on the service and the scale and complexity of your order. the take out human beings have plenty to handle interior the kitchen, servers are interior the way, chefs do not prioritize take out food, telephones are ringing off the hook, etc. so in the event that they did a reliable interest... tip them.replaced into your order maximum appropriate, replaced into it on the spot, have been they effectual and friendly??? it incredibly is complicated to discover reliable service at the instant, teach appreciation for a activity properly performed :)

it depends -- are you getting in from a reastuarant ( ie applebees , ihop , outback) if so how large is the order -- are you placing a special order ?? if you are the person doing all this has to take time to make sure it is prepared correctly and all the extra condiments are in the bag . now granted you dont have to tip as much as if it were a server waiting on you -- but when someone takes time to help you ensure you meal with be satifactory -- they should be monitarily compensated.. usually a server is the one taking the order and putting in ... so having said that they still have to claim ten percent of that sale as well .

i will end with this -- if you are a decent person you will tip !!!

and ps -- most servers make way below minium wage

and pizza drivers DONT get a gas allowance-- it comes straight out of pocket !!! tip drivers will too

Definitely. If they are waiters or waitresses. Sometimes people have huge take out orders that take away time from the customers who are dining in which puts more pressure and work for waiters or waitresses. If they are kind you should leave a tip if you just came in and stopped their natural money making process. To go orders are just like the people dining in...

Where I work the take away server makes 2.13 an hour. They bagged your food, make sure it is correct, take your order on line or over the phone and they make all the condiments. They also have to take into consideration HOW long it will take for your order to be ready. They also take it out to your car. YES you should tip them.

You should always tip something small on the take out food.. whether you people know it or not, you are receiving "service". someone has to take the phone order, someone has to give it to the kitchen, someone has to cook it and someone has to box and bag it up for you. and someone has to take the time to take your money and give you change. so if you don't believe this is "service" , you are mistaken on a high level.

Let me clear this up for everyone.. If you do tip the person that hands you the bag you just tipped them for telling the kitchen your order then taking the bag that is all set for them and handing it to you..

The kitchen staff will box your order up and generaly any server/busser not busy will gather your sides dressings etc and put them in the bag that the kitchen just got ready. 100% of the time when you tip for to go orders it does not go to the people that actualy did anything for your order.

I also want to let you know exactly what the host does.. They have a random server ring up your order they aren't seen untill you come in to get the food and they come back and ask if it's ready yet. They don't ever touch the food so you just tipped them for answering the phone.. Also Hosts get more then min wage. If you realy want to tip for your to go order. Give it to the kitchen staff. To Go orders realy throw things out of whack in the kitchen as it's THEM who do all the boxing and yelling for idle servers to get over and gather whatever isn't in the kitchens direct reach.
