I've been a server at a local barbecue restaurant for a few months now, and the variations in tips I earn always surprise me. How much do you usually tip, and what do you expect from your server when you eat out?

The tips given can be less or more than 7 tips. It must be applicable to different types of fine dining, be it western, french, steakhouse, chinese, asian or fusion.

When i say family restaurants, i'm talking pizza parlors, pizzarias, italian restaurants, etc... Not fancy restaurants that exclusively cater for alcoholic needs, but the occasional six-pack of beer.

I never enjoy it, even when the person did a great job and deserves it. I feel that he or she should get their compensation through wages not tipping. I even hated when I had job where I got tips. Something too 'master and servant' about it

I love phones, and carry two. One is a regular cel. and the other a direct connect to my gym(i own one). Anyway went out to dinner and my girlfriend told me i have no etiquet to pick up a call while whe where having dinner. I'm angry that she sead this so whats the rule i should follow.

What does anyone feel about tiping the carryout person? Dont they have to package all the food and do allot more work then the actual server? Why is it that people seem not to tip these people?
