Emergencies only... put the phone on vibrate or better yet turn it off. it is rude not only to the people you are with, but to the people that work at the restaurant.

on the other hand, on the scale of rude things you can do ,it is fairly low on the rudeness scale, in this modern world if you accept a call or two. (many would disagree and rate this as high on the scale). This is assuming you excuse yourself, and step out of the restaurant. If you talk at the table or are taking several calls throughout dinner you have dramatically increased your rudeness level.

So what I'm saying is that your date was justified, but in the 21st century you have to ask yourself; Do i love my cellphone enough to be a little rude at the dinner table?

Stay home with your phones then. Your girlfriend is right! Time with her is not time you should be spending on your two cell phones. If your not into your girlfriend then don't waste her time and spend your time with your cell phones. Usually, when you go to dinner, you turn off your cell until your done. Put the phones on vibrate in case of an emergency.

If you are having dinner, perhaps you may put your phone on vibrate. You may look in your purse and see who's calling and if it is not important at that time, simply ignore it. Chances are you will get a message that you can listen to in the lady's room. In no case should you answer the phone during dinner. It is as distracting as it would be in a job interview.

Forbid that someone has died, but you can't bring them back. Be respectful of your dinner companions and remove yourself if you think you must respond to the call.

Leave your cell in the car. You can always call whoever's call you may have missed. It won't be the end of the world. Trust me!

Enjoy your meal and most importantly, listen to your girlfriend.

No cell phones during dinner! If work is an emergency, I'd make an exception for that.

You should never have a cell phone on when you are on a date, especially if your date does not like the interruption. It is also rude to the other people in the restaurant.

Your girlfriend is right. Ane the other patrons would agree with her. Let it take messages and answer them later - that is unless you are going to Taco Bell!!!

at dinner, turn them off! they can leave you a message if it's important, then once you are at a point to check your voice mail then do so.
