Programming & Design - October 2006

Do I need a special soft-ware program to download photos to a CDrom disc? Or do I need to buy hardware equipment. I'm pretty new at this, and thought it would be a piece of cake but alas, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting, and I can't get it right yet. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to upload images to my website but it always says that it's an invalid image type. I'm using jpg and that's what it needs so why isn't it uploading? I email it to my web host and it works for him but I can't do it on my computer. What am I supposed to be doing? I want to do it myself because if the hoster does it, he charges me for it. When he uploads it, he doesn't change anything after I send it, so it's something to do on my end. Does anybody know?

I'm trying to compare two strings in an if statement, one is buffer.toString the other is "sequence", the name of the other string variable. right now my if statement loooks like (buffer.toString() == sequence), but it doesn't work. I also tried sequence.toString(). i know it is only comparing addresses, not the actual string.

ok, i have a distributed supercomputer at my control. its currently connected to 741 other computer and i will convince more peolpe to help me. but untill then i would like something serious to do with the processing power. your in the programming and design, you must be able to come up with something constructive.

For the past 2 years I've been a computer programming major, I love the work I do (on assignments), the assignments are starting to become somewhat repetitive, and I honestly feel (and have felt) like this was the type of work I feel like doing as a full blown career.

The school at where I am at seems to focus more on the teaching of different languages (quantity over quality I would guess), regardless I have already started to realize that all programming languages are very similar (and some even have the exact same syntax!). My question is since I am wanting a job in the business world (originally I wanted a job with a video game company, but I would honestly rather have job stability and a higher paycheck so I think I might do something in database management) and I am getting close to my degree (finally!) what other aspects of programming should I look into.

Some examples of what I am looking for are, UI design, API programming, User Simplicity, ect.

I'm creating an animation in Flash 5. There is plenty of dialogue, so I've imported all the necessary files. However, on certain scenes, even though I've placed them exactly right on the time frame and enabled "stream" sync, when I play the .swf the sounds all occur at the wrong time. Is this a bug? How can I remedy this? Most scenes work fine.

I need to add an email form into an html page that will let people select an event on a v.i.p. list of different shows and have that perticular event in the subject for the email to then be sent to the host of the event with the number of people to put on their guestlist. I'm guessing I'll have to use some kind of drop-down box with the events in the dropdown box and then have that create the subject line and then the user just types in their info.
Is there any sites that have this kind of code to add to a Dreamweaver made page?
