i get many programmes open up like msn, Yahoo messanger and a few others. How do i stop this, so i can just open programmes as i need them?

I'm using System Mechanic 7 and the defragmentation leaves fragments... should I delete these files???

to continue--location 0x04564feb"----then "click on OK to terminate the programme"-----"click on terminate to debug the programme".
When I do either,it just clears the screen!!! The location varies,the quoted one was just the latest .
This problem occurs when I merely open Documents,and leave it a few seconds.Further to this my canon pixma 1700 printer refuses to print anything other than jpeg.(and similar files.No .wps,.doc or even HTML documents.I mention this because in one of the "Technical" ? answers, it referred to a breakdown between computer and printer.
I have "Googled" this error code but all info is in "Geek Speak"---I don't have a clue what they are talking about-and couldn't unravel any cure.Can anyone tell me how to fix it---in plain language???

Windows start up takes ages to settle,bugs are not the problem, any ideas to speed it up ?
