Internet - January 2007

Anybody else with slow broadband? I have installed some network monitoring software.. and the connection to outside line is up and down all the time. When doing a ping www.yahoo.com -t in command prompt, it times out every so often for a few seconds. Doing my head in. Any advice??

This may sound dumb but I'm still pretty new to computers and have a lot to learn still. I've recently started receiving tons of junk e-mail in my bulk mailbox-up to 20 a day, sometimes 15 or so all at once. I never had this before. I do know enough to not open any of them, I always delete them right away. I realize I must have given my e-mail address to a site thats passed it on to other sites, but there is no consistency to what I'm receiving. It seems to be any topic you could imagine. My question is: has the damage been done and I'm doomed to receive this stuff forever? (I just find it really annoying) Or is there a fairly easy way to make it stop? If I haven't given enough details let me know and I can add what you need to know to hopefully help me out. Thanks to all who answer.

When the background should be black it shows up as white, and my contact table is not showing either. But it is on other computers, just not mine. What do you think is wrong with my puter>?

If someone has a lot of negative feedback ( actually 20 in the last year) then they decide to go 'Private' is it possible to find out what the negative feedbacks involved...........if not then why would anyone buy or sell from them???

I am a little embarrased because I cannot put my finger on this problem ...which is....
I use a dating site where one can chat live by simply clicking on a member who is on line with the site.
I am using nortons internet security....my win browser is ms internet ex 7....I have disabled all know pop up blockers ....firewalls...ect.
Any one have any idia's ?

Pop ups keep coming like at every second, I download mozilla firefox but it only blocks pop ups like once every 20 times. Anyone know anywhere do download a pop up blocker? And something that I dont have to pay.

I have no idea how the hell to get past my school filter. They've thought of everything:

1. Proxies.
Nope. I've sifted through 20+ pages of proxies and they're all blocked. So why don't I make my own....
2. Because Proxies Don't Get Past the Filter Anyway
I've tried using web archives and language translators as proxies, but i'm still blocked! WTF?
3. IP
I've heard somewhere that you try accessing a site via its IP. I haven't actually tried this, but whenever I visit a restricted site and get a "THIS IS BLOCKED" message, I notice that the url bar includes, among other things, an IP address. Meaning that the filter checks for IPs too.
4. Google's Cache
Doesn't work
5. Installing Anti-Filter Software
I'm not sure if such programs exist, but if they do, they can't be installed on my school's computer because you have to be an admin to install anything.


Please help! I'm not sure what type of filter it is, but it's a good one. It is created by EduTech

Whenever I go onto a website, instead of an advert, it's a red box.
I have the new version of Java and flash. Im using IE7 and Windows XP. I have the Yahoo Toolbar and the pop up blocker is disabled.

i keep getting notification e-mails from EVERYWHERE saying that my e-mail has been blocked, but get this. i didn't send the e-mails it said got blocked. i believe there is a spammer in my account and YES I CHANGED MY PASSWORD! i changed it two days before i went offline for a week. the notifications spammed my box while i was gone. how do i stop it? i mean the spammer-mail i've somehow been sending unknowingly.
