Hi. No. Storage is on your hard drive. You should defragment it one in a while, maybe monthly.

Edit: dze is correct. If your hard drive is near it's limit then your system can slow down when files get transferred.

On average that would be about 5 1/2 GB of hard drive space, that is quiet a bit, put them on CD's and turn your hard drive free of this nonsense.....

my experience is if ur harddrive is more than 3/4 full it will start slowing down ... the effect is more when the harddrive is smaller ...

Yes, and it will also get you a nice visit from RIAA and the FBI for illegal downloads. Have fun convincing them that you "didn't know" that downloading music you don't own was illegal.
