Computers & Internet - 15 June 2006

I tried a re-install and because it was'nt clear about overwriting the currently installed program I ended up with two windows programs on comp. One functional , the new one installed and the orginal that does'nt. The problem is that I am now getting the same blue screen errors as i did with the first windows. So I want to wipe hard drive clean and re-install, but can this be done with the disc Dell provided?

I have been trying to download Free Beta version 4 of Google Earth released early this week on a dial up network. Dowload box opens, download starts, showing that total download size is 13 MB. However, on various occasions, download suddenly stops after downloading data ranging from 4 MB to 8.75 MB. Installation from downloaded data fails. I have unsuccessfully tried download half a dozen times. What could be possible cause? I have removed earlier version of Google Earth (Version 3) from desktop.

Hey Hi,
i have a IBM ThinkPad (LapTop) and few weeks ago when ever i unplugged it from the outlet the computer didnt shutdown because it was using its battery and now the battery is fully charged and whenever i unplugg it the laptop shuts down. i dont know what the problem is because the battery is not dead or low does anyone know anything about computers. the laptop works fine when its plugged in to the outlet but when unplugged it should be the same

Ok, Have a system with SATA hard drive and I am trying to install an IDE drive on the system. Only have one IDE port and currently have 2 CD/DVD drives using that. So I bought a SATA 2 IDE Adaptor (Siig's version). My motherboard (P5GPL) has 4 SATA slots, with 2 labeled Master and 2 Slave. I'm unsure which slot I should be plugging the drive into. I would think the slave next to the master that has my SATA drive on it? Anytime I try that my system can't find the SATA drive to boot. Any other place, the system boots, but windows XP doesn't see the drive, nor the bios.

Don't know what else to put here? Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I'm going through trial and error and someone must know enough to point me in the right direction.

I'm about to build a pc for my brother (who lives in another state) and would like to know what software I should install to keep his computer running in top shape, or even programs that are useful, such as paint/pic viewing/burning software, freeware preffered

So far I have:

1. Grisoft AVG Free Edition - (antivirus)
2. Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal - (spyware remover)
3. Spybot Search and Destroy - (spyware remover)
4. Videolan - (plays most video formats)
5. Winrar/Winzip
6. CDburner XPpro 3 - (iso, music, file burning software)

Any additional software suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

How do I locate hkey_classes_root\clsid\{dee6806c-fb33-d04c-e1c6-8d? This shows up when I do the Yahoo anti-spy tool as a keyboard logger and when u click details you get the above hkey location. I've tried to delete through anti-spy but get the msg that one or more items can not be removed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many sites that I go to now to browse or to download from sa that their are " Now Beta Available " or " Beta Downloads Now Available ". I just downloaded LimeWire and figured that I would just do best getting both. Which do I need? Which is better for me to use? I just upgraded my system from Windows Me to Xp Pro. It's my first experience with Xp and it appears to be a whole new world.
