cd burner dvd combo vs dvd burner... what's the difference??

i'm about to get a new computer, and that's new business to me... someone please explain

For this, you first need to know the difference between an ordinary CD and a DVD. A DVD can story much more data and is of better quality than a CD. That's why movies come on DVDs. So a CD burner will let you save data on an ordinary CD-ROM... but a DVD burner will let you save data on a DVD. Of coruse, you will have to buy blank "writable" CDs or DVDs according to the type of burner you choose.

PS: DVDs are more expensive.

Also, a combo drive is one in which ONE drive does both things- reads/plays CDs as well as burns CDs/DVDs. So if you have a CD burner/DVD drive, it means it will read and play both CDs and DVDs, but only burn/write CDs. Whereas a DVD burner will both play and write on CDs as well as DVDs.

CD burner\DVD combo = capabilities burn CD-R or CD-RW, and read DVD and CD formats
DVD burner = capabilities burn CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and read all formats (i.e. CD, DVD)

In this age of ever increasing file sizes it make the most sense, to purchase a DVD burner.

a combo dvd/cdburner is a optical drive that can burn a cd (with at max 700 MegaBytes ) and read any cd or dvd disk .
but a dvd burner is a optical drive that can read and write(burn) disks with capacity up to 4700 MegaBytes(4.7 GB single layer DVD) or even 9000 MegaBytes(9GB doul layer DVD).
here is the diffrence.

DVD Combo is only read DVD media & DVD burner will brun DVD media that the diffrence in both of them.
