On Monday morning, I drove there to get an ESTIMATE for brakes on my old '93 Toyota Corolla. I made it clear that I didn't want any work done...just an estimate. I refused the 1st estimate of $845, which they then decreased to $511, which I still wasn't willing to pay for an older car. Then I found out I couldn't leave b/c they had taken ALL 4 TIRES OFF THE CAR, stripped my car of all of its brakes AND put air in the line. THEY then refused to put the car back the way I drove it in. In fact, they told me that if I tried to drive it, they'd call the state troopers & tell them I was driving an unsafe vehicle! I had to walk to work in my 3" heels where I wrote up a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, as well as Meineke's HQ. I never signed any agreement with them. Short of suing them, is there anything else I can do? A friend of mine helped me push the car of their lot and onto street parking so as not to get towed. (This is what happens when you're a woman)

I am thinking about buying a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with 60,000 miles for $7000. Is this a good idea? Are they good cars? I have a family (husband and 2 kids) so I want something reliable. Thanks a bunch!

I send a shipment from UK to India. My shipping company gave me an exchange rate of 78 Rs to 1 Pound. I checked it on www.xe.com and found out that It was 85 Rs to 1 Pound on the selected date. what shal I do.
Do shipping companies have their own exchange rate chart ?
If its like that, why do we pay CAF (Currency adjustment factor)?
Or does shipping companies have to follow the official exchange rate on any day of transaction ?
Please help..

I drive a mid-size 2.7L SUV with automatic overdrive and AWD. My commute takes me up steep hills and over mountains. I'm not sure of the grade on any of them, but many have truck lanes to allow slower vehicles to move over as the climbs can be tough and sometimes lengthy. In a situation like that, is it best to let the cruise do the work for the engine or let the driver control the rate of accelleration?

When I lived in Europe, I didn't need a car much because I could get most everywhere, from the next town over, to the other side of the continent, by train.

Since returning home, I've been frustrated by the lack of rail service. It seems everywhere I look, they are tearing up train tracks. And yet everyone is bemoaning our reliance on the automobile and what it is doing to our environment. I would take the train, if there were trains to take.

Does anyone know of an organization that encourages passenger rail, inter-city trains, things like that?

I was being nice because I had a former friend who was down and out. I had an 02 Altima I was getting rid of and decided to sell it to a friend for $10,000, with the arrangement that he should pay me as much as he could afford until the car has been paid off. Seeing that he was such a good friend, and had been very trust-worthy, I gave him both sets of keys to the car. Well it's been over a year now and I've only recieved $60, how should I go about repossesing this car. (The Car title is still in my name)

I mean, what if some totally unexpected hypercool supercar comes out in 2007... the disaster would be HUGE! HUGE, I TELL YOU!
But seriously, seems a bit weird to choose the car of the year 2007 in 2006. So why?
