Yes it does, anything that affects your judgement will affect your diving, coffee increases your metabolism and can make you jittery.

It has been scientifically proven that coffee has a positive effect on driving ability.
For example, Formula 1 race drivers are renowned for downing a quick espresso when they come in for a tyre change as it helps them drive faster in the second half of the race.
Also, since 1997, at the 24 Heures du Mans race it has been obligatory for drivers to have coffee-making facilities built into the cockpit of their cars - the coffee is drunk through a staw which is integral to the driver's helmet. This important safety measure has increased driver alertness and consequently reduced the accident rate.
Finally, many stuntmen swear by the ability of coffee to make them drive on two wheels. I've listed some sources below. If the test examiner asks you to do an emergency reverse handbrake turn up a hill, you'll wish you'd had a coffee!!!

Hello,
Coffee is a drink that contains caffine, like tea. Coffee is basically a mild form of stimulant, if anything it would make you feel more aware, your reaction times better in a driving situation.
**I've held a full UK license for about 20years & been driving for over 10years and driven commercially for a short time too. I've never ever noticed any detrimental effects from drinking coffee and then driving. Coffee & driving are legal as far as I am aware, I think the authorities would make a point of telling drivers to refrain other wise.
**Whoever said avoid coffee & driving is talking rubbish frankly.

If you drink coffee normally - carry on it will top up your caffeine levels and hence your alertness and ability ro respond. If you didn't drink coffee normally then it could make you jittery and nervy with palpitations. I reckon coffee is always the way forward for coffee drinkers, keep your carrene levels topped up under pressure to prevent headaches and shakey withdrawals. I was once too addicted to caffeine and suffered for days when I stopped drinking it for a couple of years! Trouble is it just smells and tastes sooo good.
