Why are motorcycle engines able to operate at RPM's such as 12,000 and above? Whereas car engines are much lower. the highest you really see in production cars is 8500-9000.

She will be using it to drive to and from work, and around town in the suburbs. She will not be driving at more than 40 mph on it, and when she needs to drive on the highway, or drive her friends, she can take the family car.
She wants a Vespa. She loves the retro look. We want to make sure we get the most for our money, and get something that is easy to maintain. We want to spend no more than $4000.

I have a 1993 Honda VFR750. Its all white with a BRAND NEW paint head to toe and I would like to have some sort of protection if someone knocks it over in a parking lot (like what happened to my neighbor last week) or I take a spill (not likely, but it happens in LA). My fairings were hard enough to locate and very expensive. A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Yahooooooooooooooooooo

I am 21, live in Bromley, Kent (Greater London), have a full drivers licence (with Pass Plus), have passed my CBT and am doing my DAC in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking to get a 500-600cc Honda (CBR preferably but insurance so I'm told is high so probs a Hornet).

Couple of questions...

What motorbike helmet do you reccomend? The two shopkeepers I've spoken too have said top of the range Shoei are the best for safety but £500 seems a lot of money to spend. I want to be safe and of course would be prepared to spend that money but I dont want to spend £500 on a helmet that is no better then a £200 one.

Could someone also shed some light on what I'd expect to pay for insurance. I understand there are many issues involved when it comes to insurance but I'm just looking for a rough estimate. Maybe someone who is / has been in the same position?

Thanks a lot in advance.

I own a membership to Mountain Lakes Camping Resort.
I am being told that I have to leave my Goldwing Motor Cycle at the entrance , even though I have handicap plates on it.
There is handicap parking in back at the Rec. Center, Pool and Resturant, but they won't allow me to drive my very quite motorcycle to those spots. I am unable to walk very far and it is a large camping facility.
The only exception to the no motorcycle rule is if you have a camping spot and then you are allowed to drive in to it.
I show proof of my disability, but they say that it makes no difference.
It was ok when I bought my membership, but because they have had loud bikes cruising around the camp ground and bothering people, they say no to all motorcycles including the ones that have the plates now.
I don't see why I can't drive straight to the handicap parking spots, because they had problems with some bikers cruising around before.
My membership is for camping and day use of facility.
HELP Please

I'm thinking about a Ninja 250R.

I was hoping to buy it used.. is this a good idea? Or is buying a used motorcycle very risky?

Also seeing as this is my first own bike (the last one i was on wasn't my own) i don't wanna go crashing or dropping a brand new bike, yknow?

What do I need to look for when buying a used motorcycle? What common problems would I come across? What kind of questions should I ask the owner?

Like a car, should I bring it to a motorcycle shop BEFORE I buy it to have someone check it out?

Anything else you wanna add? ^_^

Thanks.
