I own a membership to Mountain Lakes Camping Resort.
I am being told that I have to leave my Goldwing Motor Cycle at the entrance , even though I have handicap plates on it.
There is handicap parking in back at the Rec. Center, Pool and Resturant, but they won't allow me to drive my very quite motorcycle to those spots. I am unable to walk very far and it is a large camping facility.
The only exception to the no motorcycle rule is if you have a camping spot and then you are allowed to drive in to it.
I show proof of my disability, but they say that it makes no difference.
It was ok when I bought my membership, but because they have had loud bikes cruising around the camp ground and bothering people, they say no to all motorcycles including the ones that have the plates now.
I don't see why I can't drive straight to the handicap parking spots, because they had problems with some bikers cruising around before.
My membership is for camping and day use of facility.
HELP Please

I agree with bluffmike. Check into it. You also have the added argument that motorcycles (particularly yours) were allowed when you obtained your membership. Start at the desk if you want, but you need to address this with the management of the facility. Don't say "lawsuit", they should get it on thier own.

You don't say whether this is a public access resort (in other words anyone can drive up and get a camp site) or if it's a private members only resort.

If members only, you're basically out of luck. The Americans with Disabilities Act only applies to Public Accomodations: "It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications."

There is a board that decides the rules for the resort which can be changed generally with a majority approval.

You can see if you can get the rules changes, however a majority of the membership decided that loud pipes were disturbing the peace and quiet of the people trying to enjoy the resort and in an effort to be fair, banned all motorcycles.

There are many of these types of neighborhoods around the country. People move into them to keep the peace and to keep the neighborhoods nice and family friendly.

Your only real option is to sell the membership.

In a desirable international, the motor vehicle ought to have the handicapped individual in it previously the motor vehicle can park there. regardless of the shown fact that, I somewhat have seen on endless events relatives using the handicapped parking spot without the handicapped individual with them. it somewhat is an abuse of the handicapped parking privilege and regularly is going unpunished. This reasons the guy who somewhat does have a handicap to ought to park farther out and danger harm attempting to make there thank you to the shop. additionally, a handicap could be psychological or actual, or the two. Many morbidly obese persons are seen handicapped. I somewhat have found out in cutting-edge months which you are able to't consistently tell that a individual is handicapped merely based upon their visual allure.

I believe the 'disabled Americans' act which requires handicap parking is federal and cannot be overridden by a business . Further, your state may have an "equal access" law that requires them to admit your bike.

get a doctors note stating that you are unable to "walk" or "stand" for long periods of time and rely on transportation to get you from area to area.

They can't discriminate because you are disable. they are already trespassing on violating the American's with Disabilities Act by preventing you to access their campgrounds

if they persist, get a lawyer, many will take this type of case pro-bono since its fodder for media attention. And threaten to cancel your membership and sue to get a refund.
