My father recently inherited a sailboat from his grandfather. The sails were stored in a garage inside a cardboard barrel and now have dark stains (rust?) on them.

We're trying to figure out the best way to remove the stains without damaging the sails. Any ideas?

I have a 2007 Sweetwater 1980RE and am attempting to get it into Commercial operations in Australia. The Local authorities here need to know the tech specs on the frame and the tubes. I have contacted Godfrey Marine by email on three occasions, but they have not responded.

The local dealer can't answer the question and as I am not trying to purchase aren't interested in trying to chase this up.

I really am desperate for an answer to what the hull construction is ?mm plate and of ??grade material. Niether of these details are available to me for some reason, so I am hoping someone out there will know this answer and where I can locate a source of reference.

Thanks

The new ship Titanic II is sailing on her maiden voyage. As luck woul have it, she strikes an iceberg. The leak created is taking in water at a rate of 3.25 tons every 12 minutes. The ship is 40 miles from the nearest land. The captain knows that the ship will sink if it takes in 68 tons of water. The pumps of the ship can throw out 12 tons of water every hour. With this damage, the ship can travel at 2.25 miles per hour. Will the Titanic II sink before it reaches shore? if it does sink, how far from shore will it sink?

I purchased a storage unit of OMC 50's - 70's boat parts and have been selling them on eBay for 2 years now, id switchy109. I have uncovered a windshield that I would like to put up, new with one chip along the edge, and I dont know how to list it or what it might be worth. It would have been put into the storage unit in the 70's. It is flat glass, 36" wide and 17-1/2" tall with two humps on top, like on the top of a heart. Any ideas???

I am very attracted to the idea of permanently living aboard a narrowboat. I used to row regularly when I was at school and used to love the canal especially on a winter morning when it was incredibly quiet and yet in the city. I am a nurse so I could relocate more or less anywhere within commuting distance of a hospital so would be happy to go wherever I could find a residential mooring. I am single so no partner or kids to worry about squeezing in. My main worries are that I would spend all my savings/borrow money and then find that in a few years the boat was no longer habitable and had depreciated so I'd have nothing and also that I'd miss having neighbours and find it an isolating experience with just passing tourists for company. What is your advice ?

I'm a marina and boatyard manager, so I see this a lot: A guy buys a boat, knowing nothing about anything, and takes his family along for a ride. Crashing into the dock, can't tie a knot, etc etc.
Not only is he risking damage to his investment, but he's risking his families' life. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people literally avert death by the skin of their teeth... and be completely obvlious to it.
Wouldn't it be better to take some classes, get used to boating on a friend's boat, and such, before buying something too large to handle competently and setting off on a fantastic voyage?
What's your opinion? The more humorous the better. :)

Our neighbor built his dock about 18" too far into the canal (the lake is on the other side of his dock). I was planning on getting a 24' pontoon boat but it will not fit.

He spent a lot of money and this will not be pretty but his actions have lowered the value of my house and has kept me from getting the boat I want.

Any suggstions as to who to contact first to find out what the rules are and who as jurisdiction?

It's a 1970's-era bass boat, and we ripped the entire floor out of it and re-did it, set it all in with new fiberglass. Then we sanded it all down smooth, and used Bondo to fill all the damaged areas and old holes from all the old equipment we took off. Now we'd like to paint it, but are unsure what kind of paint would be easiest to use and yet durable enough... it has to be something we can apply with brushes and/or rollers. Right now we're only looking to paint the interior, the floor, and the top side of the boat.

My wife and I are in the infant stages of planning a global circumnavigation. We haven't done any cruising to speak of so we don't know what to expect as far as expenses.

By expenses I don't mean typical groceries and exchange rates. What I'm looking for is slip rent or mooring fees and such. It will be for a 36' monohull.

About how much can we plan on spending? I've heard/read amounts in the range of $600.00/ month to $2,000.00/ month. Like I said, we're in the early stages so approximations from folks who have "been there- done that" would be great!
