Really simple
1) fogging fluid - hook her up to the hose, and run fogging fluid into the carbs (1 can)... she will start running rough and smoking but that is cool. It is also okay if it stalls out.
2) lower case gear oil - I change this in the fall just in case any water made its way in there - you would not want that freezing
3) add fuel stabilizer - simple... and ideally you want 1/4 tank of fuel, but with your tanks it really does not matter
4) flush out - you can do this a few ways, the best way is once you have about 1/4 can of fogging fluid left, dissconnect the hose (while running) - let it pump out for a minute then connect to an anti freeze bottle, continue running and spraying fogging fluid until the antifreeze is gone

I actual have a 1979 Merc 50 that we offered new... it somewhat is been submerged approximately thrice... completely... as quickly as for 3 days at 3 feet down. I actual have constantly executed an analogous winterization for the final 20-some years... positioned gas conditioner interior the final tank of gas for the year, pull the boat out, pull the plugs out. purchase some fogging oil and spray it liberally into the hollow the place the plug got here out. positioned the engine hide returned on yet depart the plugs out (on the sprint or the floor in a baggie). hide the boat for wintry climate and incorporate the motor hide (with a tarp if the wintry climate hide does not hide the motor). Drain the decrease unit kit oil by way of removing the two plugs (proper and backside) and depart them out besides, all wintry climate. hide the backside (decrease unit) with a great baggie (AKA green rubbish bag) or a plastic hide so the rain, snow, despite, does not enter the decrease unit kit housing. interior the spring, replace the decrease plug on the decrease unit and replace the kit oil. Then replace the better plug. positioned the spark plugs returned in, fill the tank and supply her some pulls. she would be waiting to circulate and he or she would be waiting to spit some smoke. The smoke is the fogging oil you sprayed in final fall. enable it run and the smoke will circulate away. you're actually set for the summer. 50:a million and away you circulate. stable success!

An outboard does not have a closed cooling system. The water used to cool the engine will drain when taken out of the water

Run it out of gas and while your doing it, use RV antifreeze to suck through the cooling system and leave it.
