I recenlty lost a frivolous lawsuit in Civil Court? I am wondering if the person who won the case against me can take my income tax return? Or can I pay the judgement against me out in payments?

I read in paper that due to some upgrade with the irs, people who used to get rapid refunds with last paycheck stub will no longer be able to? That the IRS did away with that? Does anyone know?

I was looking through some cities on Bestplaces.net and I noticed that in many Southern states there is a 0% income tax. Missouri, one state I'm interested in, has a brutal 7% income tax. What is up with that?

Long story short...husband and I made approximately $60,000 in 2007. An error was made and he's been claiming 4 people for 6 months on his paycheck, (I claimed no one through the year). We only have a family of 3 so how 4 people were made exempt is beyond me. We've paid approximately $6540 in federal and $2720 in state. How much are we going to have to pay in? And what will happen if we can only do a payment plan? Do we have to get a lawyer to setup a payment plan? Any info would be appreciated.

I don't really feel like paying $400 bucks again this year.

Isn't it essentially just inputting your data from your W-2 form and filling out the sections for your deductions?

They make the software "dummy proof" - don't they? Or as much as possible since the makers know that those doing their own returns are not tax professionals.

Thoughts?

My Dad gave me $80,000 from the sale of some property as a gift. He passed away just last Friday, and I hate to think of money at a time like this, but I'm wondering what will happen as far as taxes! I know you have a 12,000 exemption. But will I need to pay a gift tax on this since he can't? And what about capital gains tax? Any help is appreciated! thanks!

Last year EVERYBODY was e-filing on the 2nd of January. They were getting pay stub loans and spending money at the mall. Can it be done again this year? I heard that it has been DISCONTINUED. Is that for every single tax office in the US?

Instead of paying $3 for every stock transaction, I decided to do it myself with the help of some savvy commercial software program designed specifically for traders with wash sales.

But the question is how do I e-file now?

Since the schedule C is a hard copy, how do I go about doing this?

Any suggestions? I'm going to use H&R Block next month.

On my mutual funds, I received transactions like this:

Dec 18, 2007 Capital Gain Reinvested $63.16
Dec 18, 2007 Capital Gain Payment $29.81
Dec 18, 2007 Dividend reinvestment $12.28

This is a tax question - I understand what is going on here, but I forget which is short term and which is long term - the payment or the reinvestment? I know the dividend is normal income.

thanks!

I had my sinuses cleaned out and had the surgeon also perform some cosmetic surgery on my nose at the same time. I was told some of it would be billed to insurance but wasn't coverable because of the cosmetic surgery done. Can the costs be deducted as medical expenses on income tax?

I have two children and a non-working significant other in my home. I claimed exempt and did not change my exemptions back. I usually get anywhere from $3500 to $5000 back due to EITC and Child Tax Credit.

i'm wondering how in the world i will cash my income tax return with no checking account, the check will be close to 4000 dollars. i want to have it direct deposited into my dad/s account but i'm afraid it won't work. i don't want to pay all those crazy check cashing fees. i was wondering if i got a prepaid visa card if i could have it deposited on to that. anyone have any ideas on how i can cash the check?

i've had a checking account in the past and wasn't very good at keeping up with it, so i'm wanting to get another one yet, plus i don't even think i can.
