2007 tax return question

I have some money invested in a sort of term deposit style fund because I am saving for a house. Now, I know the interest I earn in this fund is considered income, but if I leave it off my tax return, what are my chances of being caught?

The fund has my tax file number so they don't deduct tax from it at the highest marginal rate and I assume they will use it to report my interest earnings (income) to the tax office at some point.

But I was going to leave this fund off my tax return completely.

So, what are my chances of getting away scott free and not being audited by the tax office down the track? I'm thinking they would have bigger fish to fry than me so my chances look pretty good?

I pay tax on my work salary which I think is enough. It's not like I see benefit from it within soceity. Why give the Government more to plunder away when it could be used towards a house.

I have no guilt so if it's possible I will do it. Everyman for themselves in this world.

Hi I'm actually asking for my mom. She's been my daycare provider since I went back to work, and in '06 I paid her $400. She's a homemaker, my father works and they have 3 dependants. I want to use the child care credit on my taxes, but will they come after her for not filing if she doesn't? It's only $80 for me so if it cost her more than that, I'd rather just skip it.

My former husband is general manager and V.P. (for 17 yrs.) at his place of work. The business, based in California, builds custom homes and also provides building services for new housing developments that are being built. The business is approx. 25 yrs. old and is successful.

The last few years he and his boss (the business owner) go 'off shore' (as he calls it) to do the business taxes. They recently returned from a weeks stay in the Camen Islands...he said they were there for business and to tend to business taxes.

I was married for 23 yrs. and now peacefully divorced 4 yrs. While I don't care for or talk much with my ex . . . we are still overall fine and amiable with each...our conversations only relate to our three kids (ages 14, 17, 20).

Why would a business go outside the United States to do their taxes? Seems odd to me and would like to understand.

Any answers or insight ?

I am not self-employed; I work as an employee for a company. What can I deduct on my taxes? And, I took out a loan for school only in my name, but my parents paid for the loan. I received forms from my school and bank on payments I could deduct. Can I still deduct them?

my question is: if i am a full time student and i worked all year around full time. I am only 18 and i was able to clear about $15,000. I claimed S/0 on my taxes. what does that mean exactly. My main concern is will i receive most of my taxes back? also an added factor is that my parents are not able to claim me b/c i made 15,000, but i didn't know that until we took my taxes to the lady who prepares them for us.

from 1099B have a few $ gain from probably
a partial sale...not sure
stock name & cash/lieu of few $ listed, no
share amount
in the past i would list 1 share & a reasonable buy value, and + the gain value to obtain a sell value
such that the difference would agree with the
1099B gain
i was afraid that leaving the share # and buy $
omitted would "tilt" the return
appreciate any comments
thanks

Even if you already have a job and are merely seeking one in a different part of the country? I recently had an interview about 400 miles from home, so I drove 800 miles to attend it. If this is a tax deductible expense, how is it deducted- by the cost of gas or by mile?
