I was originally hired and paid as a regular employee and now my employer has cut my paycheck in half and has been paying me as a 1099 when nothing about my job has changed. I still have to go into the office everyday and work as usual. Isnt this illegal? I think he is doing this to avoid paying the withholding taxes, that now I will have to pay. Isnt this illegal? He is doing this with all his employees. What can I do to get him to pay all the taxes from the last 5 months this has been going on?

If I have a corporation in another country making money through internet advertising, could I then pay myself (in the US) most of the income as a salary and then deduct that as a business expense so that the only tax I'd be paying would be US income tax?

I am not talking about filing, but the exact reference to the law that mandates citizens pay the IRS income tax. I found that in 1936 a supreme court judge deemed the tax illegal, and that there has not been a ruling over-riding this.

The amount of federal taxes taken out from every paycheck isjust outrageous. Is there anything I can possible do to lower that amount? Claim more exemptions and then write off expenses at year end? Donate more to charity? etc.

I moved out of my parents house in September 2006, and it is now May 2007, so it will be a full year of being on my own in September. They claimed me for last years tax season (because i lived there most of the year), but I think I need to change my W2 so I can claim myself. I work full time, and I'm not going to school. I'm 19, and make about 22,000 annually. How should I file my taxes? And will I probably owe next year? THANK YOU soo much!!

My employer pays 50% of my health insurance premium and she deducts the other 50% from my salary. Is the amount deducted subject to payroll taxes? Do I compute the taxes first and deduct the premium or deduct the premium first before computing for the taxes?
