I had recently come from the U.K and did not know much about tax filing in the US . My husband owned his own business on his social security. He was an upright citizen who always paid his taxes. That is until he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Whilst struggling with the disease for 2 years he accumalated tax debt amounting to $22000.00 which i was unaware of until he passed away. Whil'st I was married to him I did not work and was a housewife. I have been financially struggling to meet the basic needs of my daughters and myself ever since his death. I worked over the last 3 years and made a small salary of $23,000.00 which barely covers all the expenses. Our family home has been threatened with fore closure twice. I would like to appeal to the IRS to return any money that i am entitled to. Does anybody have any experience of applying for innocent spouse status. What kind of cover letter should i send with my form. I cannot afford an attorney and would appreciate any help. Thanx

Hi, The IRS sent me a letter saying there is a discrepency with my 2005 return, but I can't open the 2005 file any longer to take a look. The file is still on my laptop. Maybe because when I installed TT 2006 it removed 2005??

Any ideas? Thanks

I have just found out that I can still file for child tax credit. I have a 15 year old daughter at home. I was told that I can file a Schedule C. And I can file for the last five years.

Can anyone confirm this for me? It would be of great help.

When lowering taxes brings more revenue into the treasury, why do some people insist that raising taxes is the solution to solving the government's revenue needs?

My mother is going to apply for disbility social security at the age of 60. She retired last year due to illness(heart problems/diabetes) and receives city retirement of 1500/month. Will this affect the amount of social security that she can receive? In other words, if she can qualify for 2000.00/month, will SS lower this amount due to her receiving retirement from her City of Houston job? Thanks for any information~~

I am married and have 2 kids. We receive a large refund each year but I would like to start seeing more in my check weekly. Currently my husband and I claim single with no allowances. I do not want to owe each year in April, maybe get a small refund to pay bills. What is the most we can claim to at least break even or get a small refund?

Shouldn't he get taxed after he sells it? Is it fair for him to pay taxes on a ball the IRS feels is worth 500K today that could be worth only 10K in 10 years (if someone else like A-rod beats his record?)

I think the guy should have kept the ball and fight the IRS in court!!!

I have received 4 seperate AWARD NOTIFICATIONs mentioning I won anywhere from 956,420. GBP to $2,000,000
and three have phone numbers of courier services in the UK.
One is TNT in Manchester, another is International Courier in
London. One mentions a .01 tax due to nou UK residents supposedly a law was passed and payable to the Inland Revenue Board.
Is any of this legitimate? Are they all scams? Please inform me of your results with these organizations.
