I have friends who received huge refunds because they get almost all of there taxes back at the end of the year. I have been living on my own basically since I was 18 and I'm 20 years old now, making almost $35,000 per year as a full-time student. Shouldn't I receive all of my taxes back? I only got about $400 last year after making $25,000.

I have always wondered this. What difference does it make if the item is being shipped out of state? It just makes processing online orders a nightmare.

In my job search, I am seeing a lot of references to W2 contracts and 1099 contracts. I assume W2 means working for a contracting company and 1099 is as an independent contractor, but I am not real sure. Could someone explain the differences?

I flipped houses for a few years, spent everything I earned doing that and at my regular job, then went bankrupt and lost all my houses. I am now back in college, on financial aid, and unemployed with little or no assets.

I kept terrible records when I even kept records. The deductions I took were valid, but many i may not even have records for anymore. I kind of stopped organizing and keeping track as I went bankrupt.

that you have to pay taxes? I tried to get a job, but my mom said no because I would have to pay taxes. Is this true?

I tried to get a summer job, but why would I have to pay taxes if I only worked for three months? My theory is that like your parents get a certain amount of money for each child that they have under 18 and when they get a job when they're still a minor, they won't be getting that money anymore.

So yeah. Wanna help me out here? Sorry, I don't know much. I'm still young. :D

What should I do now?

I am a full-time, W-2, commissioned sales person. I need a blackberry because I travel ofen, but my company will not pay for it. If I get a second blackberry/mobile phone strictly for business purposes, can I deduct the expense on my income taxes? I itemize my deductions rather than take the standard deduction.

My sons mother does not work. Her only income is the $650 I give her (no support order were still married) He lives with her. I pay 100% of his cost of living. She lives with her mom and claims since her mom pays the rent lights and all the bills her mom should claim him or her, but if my son wereto live with me she would still have to pay her rent and utilities. The support I pay is for his and her food and clothes for them. just because he lives with her doesnt mean she supports him since she has no income

When a home seller receives a 1099 for forgiveness of debt in a short sale, is the income reported as miscellaneous income, or is the amount forgiven added to the tax basis, likely resulting in no taxable event? Or some other answer?

I recently got married and my husband has not filed taxes since 2003, he has gotten a deadline to file before they start garnishing his wages...so now I am here to fix it. I can't seem to find a website with the software for state and federal that doesn't charge an arm and a leg!! I am sure I can do it myself online, or should I pay a professional?? Then, I have to search around somewhere for a tax person and wonder if they are going to rip me off!! I have always done my own taxes and never paid anyone, but with his I am worried because they are old, and he is already flagged...ADVICE PLEASE!!!!! Thank you!!

For tax purposes, what is a business according to IRS rules? My plan is to have a business dealing with lending money to other people and paying delinquent real estate property taxes. I am not interested in getting customers. I want to be able to take off expenses for tax purposes when I am ready to attend real estate tax sales in other states.

My aunt was my family's accountant for 15 years and we found our recently she has a gambling addiction the caused her to steal dollars from our family over the years. What would you do if you found out there wasn't enough evidence to take her to court and she never admitted to it and was OBVIOUSLY her. Take into account that my parents are now close to retiring and have 500,000 saved for retirement.

I live in Maryland. I have 3 jobs.

One job is in Maryland but I only work there about 8 hours a week waiting tables.

My other two jobs are in Pennsylvania and I get a total of a little over 40 between the two of them.

What will the consequences of this be when I am filing my taxes here in a few months? Are there anyway to avoid this?

My next question is, would it be better to change my residency or is it too late in the year?
