My aunt was my family's accountant for 15 years and we found our recently she has a gambling addiction the caused her to steal dollars from our family over the years. What would you do if you found out there wasn't enough evidence to take her to court and she never admitted to it and was OBVIOUSLY her. Take into account that my parents are now close to retiring and have 500,000 saved for retirement.

I'd have to think this one over because I would be very disappointed in my aunt. There should be proof. There is always a paper trail when money is removed from a business. Even tho you have an addiction, you still know that you are stealing and you are stealing from family. That is pretty rotten. I hope the $500k your parents have for retirement is not the $500k she stole. While I believe what goes around, comes around, I would probably be tempted to help that along. She should have nothing. . .m-m-m-m-m that's a tough one. . . .Be very sure it is your aunt. If there is no proof, it could be anyone. . .Sometimes what appears to be the obvious solution isn't. . .

I agree with the posts above. Hire a forensic accountant and they will find how she stole the money and how much. Then you need to prosecute her.

Hire an auditor. Sue her. Then visit her in jail.
