Now that I've made it through college and established myself in my career and financially, I am looking at various investment and donation opportunities. For personal reasons, I do not want to simply make charitable donations to an organization. One thing that does strike my interest is establishing a scholarship and awarding it to a student attending the college that I went to. What are the potential tax benefits of this type of donation? Would it be comparable to simply donating to a recognized charity for tax write-off purposes?

My husband and I have been seperated for over a year with no paperwork filed. Last year we filed married and split the money because we had lived together 6 mths out of that year.

But I need to know if I should change my filing status from married to another because this year we cannot file married because we have lived apart for over a year.

Currently I file no exemptions and our 2 children live with me and have since July of 06. But we have no custody agreement. In order for me to file head of household, do I need to change my filing status with my job?

I just want to avoid any unnessacary fees or penalties. Any incite would be helpful. Thank you.

For example, why am I charged for 'touch tone' dialing? At $1.50 per line no less! Do the phone companies really support rotary dialing phones anymore? And do we need federal excise taxes plus state excise taxes plus sales tax, plus other fees and taxes? Shouldn't that be a part of pricing?

I live in Texas. There are all kinds of taxes on my bill which are apparently legit, as they tax my phone, internet service, & cable service. However, they have also taxed pay-per-view movies, etc. How do I determine if what are truly taxable items? Thanks

OK this is just the tip of the iceberg but i'm just wondering....

i work and get paid, and i pay taxes on the money that i just earned... then i take the money that i get after the tax man, and go to the store to buy something, and i have to pay taxes on it....

how can the government justify taxing YOUR hard earned money while its coming in, and going out?? thats like paying double taxes on your income....

I have a friend who's ex is on welfare. His 3 children live with her. He pays child support. She is not working. Since she doesn't work she can't claim the children on taxes, correct? She doesn't have any income except for the welfare. If she is not claiming them as dependents, doesn't my friend have the right to claim them as dependents on his taxes? If he can, would he have to get her to fill out an 8332 form?

I was told to file at 62, but I don't even know if I will live that long. I am healthy now, but one never knows. I would like to wait until I am 66 to draw more on what little I do have in it.
