I filed unemployment and got 972.00 from the unemployment office but they then revoked it which means i now owe that money back...will the IRS take that out of my taxes at the end of the year or will they just file it with a bill collector?

Yes, they can and will. They regularly intercept refunds for unemployment and child support owed. They will also attach wages to collect the amount owed. Sometimes there is a delay and they may not catch it this year if it is a recent debt, but I know from personal experience they absolutely do intercept refunds.

It is not the direct responsibility of the IRS to collect unemployment rebates. It however can become a levy against any refund if the state makes that request of the IRS.

Usually, your unemployment is regulated by the State agency, I am not sure if they can get a federal lein or not.

Check with the U.S. Treasury....If you have questions regarding the offset of your federal tax refund or offset of another U.S. government-issued payment. You can call theTreasury Offset Program (TOP) Call Center to obtain agency contact information during customer service hours.
