If I were to take a job in Eastern Mass (Boston Area) but actually live in Southern New Hampshire, how bad would that screw me in taxes (income, personal, etc.) if at all? FYI - I'm married and the head of the household if that means anything...

Thanks!

hi,
just curious, say someone won a 50 million dollar lottery in nj, what would they get after taxes, what would the final check be? And i know they usually tax you right away and then give the check, but what about the next year when you get money from bank interest on the winning, those will also be taxes a lot right?

rectify and look over your return to find any oversights???
Plus give you a $1,600. fine before you even have a chance to see where the problem lie???
A productive member of society, pay taxes and I am not even given a chance to see what the problem is and they already fined me . Please share any incidents that you went through that you thought were unfair. Feeling frazzled, thanks for your feedback.

My parents got divorced several years ago, primarily for the purpose of avoiding a lawsuit. My father suspected he would be sued, and his income is only $7K of social security per year with nothing else, whereas my mother makes over $100K per year at her job. If he was sued, he did not want my mother's income/assets to be considered by the courts, therefore they got divorced. They are not planning to remarry.

Although they are no longer legally married, they have never stopped living together. They don't by any means have a marriage, but are friends and she supports him.

My question is... we have not done any taxes for them since the divorce. I have read the pdf files on irs.gov to see how they qualify, but am confused...

What is your opinion... do they have to file each as single, or could my mother file head of household and claim him as a dependant? She provides all of his support - his SS money goes to pay off debt of his.

Thanks!!

As a sole proprietor, I'd heard that using an employer ID number (EIN) can get you audited faster than if you use a Social Security number. Any truth to this one?

I found out last Friday that the e-return my tax preparer filed on April 11 was rejected by the IRS on April 13. The IRS said they informed my tax preparer at the time of the rejection. My tax preparer never informed me of the rejection. I hoped to go away on vacation in August with my step-daughter, using the money from my tax refund. I am furious that now I cannot go on vacation. My tax preparer promised to get back to me in a couple of days, but now a week has passed. She made several mistakes. She filed me as "Single" when I specifically requested in writing that she file a "Married Filing Separately" since I explained my wife and I had separated. Second, she claimed a child tax credit on my return, even though she had just completed my wife's return and claimed the child tax credit on hers! This caused the IRS to reject the return. What do I do now? BBB? Small Claims? Board of Regents? She's done our returns for 3 years. Can I demand she loan me my refund? What should be my next step?

Resident alien, will start work with a software for less than 4 months remainder of the year. My wife and children will still not be with me for the remainder of the year. Can I still file as Married Filing Jointly with 2 dependents? What options do I have? I've seen some posts re: election on the status? Thank you.

I have been paid a portion of job costs up front to cover material cost. I pay taxes on these materials due to not having set up exempt status yet. Do I have to pay quarterly taxes on the amount spent on materials as they were already taxed? Do I deduct the material costs and pay taxes on that amount?

My former church hired a member to do some work. He has IRS tax liens filed against him and has worked under the table for years, so the pastor agreed to make the checks payable to the wife, who had nothing to do with the work for which the guy was being paid. This seems illegal (fraudulent conveyence?). Does anyone know which part of the tax code might be involved? Could the church's assets be at risk? Everyone knows about this guy's tax problems. His wife uses her maiden name because of this.
