Okay I asked a question earlier about having to pay use tax on International purchases on the internet, and one person did answer saying that, it's a personal asset tax where you get to decide how much of the sales tax you want to pay, etc, and lastly said that very, very, very few people actually file those because it's impossible for them to track all the purchases. And use tax to my understanding is a tax put on purchases made out of state or country. But last year I had a few out-of-state purchases, and one really tiny out of country purchase, and I didn't get anything from the IRS saying I had to pay an extra tax or anything.

So is this an optional tax?

I make 60K a year, and I pay 25K in interest on my mortgage every year. Does that mean that my taxable income is 35K? I file as a single. How much can I expect to get back this year? Last year I got 2K in returns, but that's before I bought a home. Thanks!

I am in debt to my father for a large sum of money that he has loaned me over the years.I know he never expected it back, but he has fallen on very hard times and is in "dire straights" to put it mildly. Can I take a loan on my house and pay him back around 45k, without he or I having to pay any "income" or other taxes.I did the math and I know I owe him more than that.I would like to repay my debt to the man without having to pay tax on money I already paid taxes on.Please...Please....Please advise me!!!!

Thank you

We are moving to TX where there is no state income tax, but there is a large property tax. What is the up-side of this type of tax if any? Is the property tax deductible? If so, if we make $100k and pay $7k in property tax, how should it affect us? Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm curious, I heard of both famous and nonfamous people not paying their taxes before. But I've also heard about them not paying them for years and years, so I'm curious how long do you have to go without paying taxes before the IRS goes after you and you are threaten with prison life? I mean it's bad enough that people who pay taxes after April and May (federal and state) have to pay a fine, so how do others get out of paying taxes for years?

Tax question—

My client donated a boat on August 1, 2003. He received an appraisal on the boat 1 week before for 395,000. After donating the property the charity sold the boat for 135,000 on August 8, 2003. IRS has disapproved the 395,000 and says the deduction can only be 135,000 and want 100,000 right away. Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I applied for unemployment with a claim on Nov. 21. I received a statement in the mail last week saying that I was ineligible in this state since I worked in Chicago, but they gave a WBA and an MBA for IIllinois instead. I went to the office in my state and filed an interstate form, so now do I have to wait another whole month before they begin to disburse any payments, or do the count the weeks I was waiting beforehand, as I put down the job I had in Chicago the first time, so it was obvious I wanted benefits from that job, not from a job in my home state.
