Council tax is charged on the property and is billed to whoever is listed as the occupier on the council'srecords. It does not depend on the number of adults living there.

However, there is a discount of 25% if only one adult is living in a property. But it does not increase if there are more than two.

How you split the charge up between yourselves is another matter.

I assume this house is treated as one property and not a number of individual dwellings when each dwelling would be charged separately.

What kind of tax are you talking about? Property tax is included in the mortgage payment.

Everybody has to file taxes. Whether or not you owe or get back depends on how much you paid and how much the 1040 form says you owe. You might want to ask for some help.
