I was divorced 2 years ago, (wife was cheating on me)had to dig into my retirement to settle with wife, she's not liable for the taxes and i'm broke and really depressed, so i decided that I didn't care if I got in trouble, and didn't file for the last 2 years, now they are after me and I want to clear it up, but I know I owe them alot of money. Will I go to jail or what. Is there anyone or any company that can help me. Why does the guy always take it in the shorts in a divorce?

If I were to move to New York City, I know they have a city income tax, but not how much. But what of Washington, DC, or as opposed to moving to Arlington or one of the surrounding cities? In light of this extra expense, which would be better to move to if I wanted to minimize my income taxes?

What should you do if the personal property tax office for a state you no longer reside in is seeking you for payment on personal property for real estate that was sold several years ago? Is there a statute of limitations on the sale of real estate? If the proper papers were never recorded, does this mean the property is still owned by the original owners? Can the property be taken back by the seller, if all owed back taxes were paid up? Where can I get information on this?

Specific Scenario:

1. Through my company's ESPP, I bought 1000 shares at price $10. At that time, the market price is $20.

2. Now about two years later, I'll sell it for the price of $30 per share.

Questions:

a. did I pay any tax on the $10 gain I made at the time I bought these shares?

b. what is my capital gain now? Is that 1000 x ($30-$10) or 1000 x ($30-$20)?

Thanks in advance!
