I just started producing training videos for an online company. So as an independent contractor having filled out the w-9, am I entitled to any write-offs? For example, I'm traveling out of town this weekend to shoot a video; should I keep records of my travel expenses?

Definitely - expenses for producing the income you'll have or plan to have will generally be deductible.

It would be a good idea to talk to a CPA to learn what types of expenses you'll be able to deduct. His/her advice will probably save you more than the fee.
