My fiance and I both have debt that we are actively paying off. We are planning a wedding for next spring with no $$$ to pay for it due to paying down the debts incurred and trying to buy my mothers house fo $300000 (worth 450000). What are our options? Are we as SOL as it seems? Any advice would be appreciated..

Have enuff saved to retire in a modest life style? I will have worked for the federal gov for 30 years with a high 3 salary average of $110K and have my retirement plan in CSR which will pay me an annunity plus I now have $135K in the TSP but it will be more in 5 years I put in $20K a year now.
I have $55K in a CD ,$142K in a money market savings acct. I have $27K in a 401-K acct at an old job. I own real estate (2 homes and 11 acres of land)valued at $350K and I have $10k in US savings bonds. I have $700 dollars income a month, until 2018, from a loan I loaned a family member. I own cars and boats worth $50K , Do you think I will be able to retire at age 56 and be able to survive until I die of old age?

I am with the Halifax and after a couple months and a few letters and phone calls they have offered me £1500 as a 'goodwill gesture' out of the £2500 they have charged me in bank charges over the last six years.
My first instinct was to accept as I didn't think they'd reimburse me at all and if they did I didn't think it would be that much but, after speaking with a few friends who have been in similar situations they have told me to refuse the offer and go for the full £2500.
I am not a greedy person so again I thought, 'no I'll stick with what they've offered me' but then on the other hand I'm thinking, 'it is my money anyway'.
Can anyone let me know the pros and cons of both options please?
ie: accept Halifax's offer or pursue the full amount?
By the way I don't even know the route I should take if I do want to go for the full amount.

That Chase charges a $6.00 relationsip fee if you do not have direct deposit and if you over withdraw - WITHOUT EVER WRITING A CHECK - (using your debit card) they will allow the purchase to go through (up $10) and then charge you a $25.00 service fee. They call approving the transaction a courtesy! A courtesy that will cost you the amount plus a minimim of 250% fee.

Did anybody know this? I didn't until just recently and now I am not a Chase customer anymore.

Realistically speaking, is this possible? Even with my current salary, I would like to have my medical bill debt paid off. Its an awful feeling to owe so much money! With my current salary I cannot afford to pay it off because I have my regular bills (mortgage, electric, gas, car payment) and I would like to have this paid off relatively soon. I have nothing to sell in my house, as nothing is worth that much. Thanks in Advance.

all I know is bankruptcy is claiming that you have no money. What's the difference if you don't do so? You STILL will have no money! Doesn't make sense to me, so I think I have the wrong definition of it. Can someone explain fully what claiming bankruptcy is all about?

In response to the answers posted to this question earlier today, this CD is not through a typical bank. It is through the Federal Goverment . I am not positive if this 8.9 is the introductory rate or if it is so high because is has so many restrictions and possibly can pose so many penalties. I thought it was a great rate also.
