I have no debt anymore because I saved and paid it all off. Well, now I have about $4,000 and I don't know whether to put it in a savings account or where to put it because I don't know anything about savings, mutual funds, or anything else involving investing any suggestions?

My husband and I are wanting to buy a house. We are trying to pay off a large line of credit bill before we buy the house so that we are sure that we are in a position to afford it. According to my amortization schedule, we will have it paid off by March 2009. But in doing that we are not contributing anything substantial to savings for a down payment.

So, my question is, should we divert some of the debt payment to savings or would we do better with our money by paying off our debt first, then save.

Interest is currently 8.75% per annum on the line of credit and we are paying $600.00 bi-weekly.

I also contribute $100/month to a mutual fund thing. Should I put that off until the debt is paid to put that money towards debt instead of savings?

We’re also in Canada in case that makes a difference.

Mainly nationwide-branch banks. A bank that offers something like $50 for opening a new account. The banks near me aren't doing anything like this, but I might have missed one.

Also, do you know of a website that lists out bank promotions and specials? (I thought bankrate.com might have this, but didn't see anything... I might have missed it.)

thanks.

He called us both numerous times, asking us to check all our silverware AND empty out our garbage to see if the knife got sent home with us somehow.

We couldn't find it anywhere, but he insists to this day that we have it somewhere. He just won't let it go!

The knife has no sentimental association or financial worth. Just your cheap $20 set of knives. He is VERY upset that one knife is missing from the set.

I tried to turn it into a joke. He came over my house a couple weeks after the knife went missing, so I took every knife and butter knife I owned and placed them up and down a long hallway.

He laughed at the time, but he STILL brings up his missing knife.

Is this a bit obsessive of him?

Should I just go buy him a new set of knives, even though I didn't lose it? He needs to let it go somehow.

I am currently thinking about bankruptcy. Is this a good way to get out of debt? I know the laws have recently changed, I live in Colorado. How exactly does it work, as far as creditors and my credit report?

Let's say I own a home. mortgage owing - $150,000.00
Actual property value $250,000.00.
A loan or mortgage of $40,000.00 needed to consildate debts and return to school for masters.
Oh yeah let's just say my credit rating is crap.
Any tips and advice to get the best rate and lowest monthly carrying costs?
What are the pros, and more importantly the cons of a second mortgage?

Hello,

I have just received an estimate of my bill but based on it, I have tried to calculate what the actual bill would amount to and I am horrified. I hope I am doing something wrong in the calculation as it amounts to £400 for two months, can anybody help, please??

My starting meter reading is 4815 and the bill is for two months.
My current meter reading is 5084.
10 units seen to equal to 314.80 kWh according to the bill
I would have used 268 units according to my own meter reading.
Pence per kWh is 4.959

I live in a two bedroom flat with one other person only. Our heating is on timer to go on in the evening (from 7pm to midninght) and a couple of hours in the morning (7.30 to 9.30 am).

Many thanks, I am extremely worried and would appreciate if anyone could help!

We are going to sale our house (50,000 profit) to buy a 143,000 house. What should I do with my $10,000 inheritance in the next few weeks to most benefit our finances? We owe no credit cards and our credit score is excellent. I was leaning toward paying off the jeep because the loan balance is 11,100 and I would have an additional $450 per month, but that interest rate is low. The other options I could pay on, but not pay in full, which would leave our monthly debts close to the same, just a lower total debt. Thanks

I heard it can be done. I always assumed when you take money out it is considered income and then taxed.

Here's the deal. I'm 22 and want to move out on my own. My parents are no help in telling me if my budget is feasible or not... so, I'm going to ask total strangers. I'm single, no kids, two dogs.

The place I want rent is 815/month. It's 760 sq. ft, so I'm assuming that utilities (I would have to pay gas and electric) are $150/month. I would want cable/internet, that's another $100/month. Total is $1065/month.

My other necessities are: my dogs ($100/month) & food ($300/month)

So, I'm looking at $1465/month in fixed expenses

I Gross about 2400 a month, net about $1800 (after health insurance and other things)

So, that would leave me $335 a month for household necessities, fun, and savings... is this reasonable????

Also, I estimated most thing up, so there's potential for a $200+ difference.

Also, I have no transportation costs. I use public transportation and the cost of my pass is deducted from my pay check.
