Mainly nationwide-branch banks. A bank that offers something like $50 for opening a new account. The banks near me aren't doing anything like this, but I might have missed one.

Also, do you know of a website that lists out bank promotions and specials? (I thought bankrate.com might have this, but didn't see anything... I might have missed it.)

thanks.

Yes, but be careful and read the fine print.

NewAlliance Bank is offering $50 for opening a new savings account. Here comes the little print:

You must have a checking account as well. Only new accounts. $50 minimum to avoid charges, but the $50 they "give" you isn't really money. The last line in the ad reads that the $50 has no cash value, and that it only gets credited to your account after you deposit $50 of your OWN money. That $50 isn't immediately available for withdrawal, and it doesn't say when it will be in the ad.

Buyer beware

Most major banks are doing this from time to time. Two that come to mind are Chase and Compass.
