I own a home and want some extra money.I have about 200,000 equity on my home and my loan is for a 100,000.My credit is not the best in the world.I have 2 credit cards total of 1,700 dollars and owe a few doctor bills totaling 730 dollars. My house payments are current and I have no car loan.My salary just barely pays my bills.Maybe I can leave some money in a high interest account to acquire some money from the equity loan too and use some of the money to do a few things to house but not major remodeling just new carpet, paint landscaping etc etc. What is the best way to get some extra cash,I am a single mom and only have my one income coing in and can't take another job because I have to take care of my other responsiblities as a mom. Please no loan companies respond. Just want to make my quaility of life a little better. Thanks anyone.

I have some credit card debt hanging over my head...most of it is from when i was unemployed a few years back. needed to use it for basics like groceries and rent (had no alternative).

i've negotiated my interest rates as low as the companies are willing to go and have good credit. however, the interest rates are still pretty high, so i'm getting reamed in the long run with finance charges. i want to pay at least one of the two cards off and close the account.

this debt is causing me stress, I can only afford to pay the min. payment each month and want to have more disposable income and money for my 401k deduction and savings account.

Any thoughts on using my ROTH IRA to pay off the debt? It will take nearly all of my IRA to cover the debt, so that's the big concern. However, i'm confident i'll be able to replenish it from other sources over the next few years.

FYI, I'm 34 in case that's a question in terms of retirement timing.

Anyone do this and have any regrets? Thx!

If it is sent by wire, they cannot say they didn't get your check, charge you late fees, etc. You have an excellent record of your payment.

I've recently been experiencing problems with 3 (the mobile network) basically they've referred my account to a debt collecting agency as they say i havent paid my bill, however when reviewing my bank statements the amount had actually gone out of my account a few weeks previous, they (3) have begun investigating where my money has gone, but say they need my bank details to investigate it properly.
however im slightly reluctant to as may/june time they took £120 out of my account without my permission as i told i was just setting up a direct debit!

Do they really need my bank details to investigate where my money has gone? I have a payment reference number!

Does anyone know whether I can spend these at shops as they are or have to go to a bank and plead my case for an exchange of notes? They were ripped off at the ends but when I have applied sellotape to put it back together they look just as they should do i.e. no missing parts. These were not ripped through the watermark and the matching note numbers are still readable (although slightly torn on one note)

I need your opinion as to whether I should make prepayments on my home loan or make investments for the same amount.

One thought says that my EMI amount will be fixed and considering a 20 year span, the worth of the EMI 10-15 years from now will be very less. The same amount can be invested in mutual funds having a medium risk.

My wife says that if we make a prepayment, our liability goes down and are done with the loan sooner as the prepayment amount is deducted from the principal amount and the floating rate of interest will go down in another 5-6 years to ~7% levels?

If anyone has already given thought to this, please reply. I'll really appreciate some thoughts from CAs and home loan professionals.

Attention Finance Wizards!

It's taken me three and a half years but I've managed to pay off my credit card debt! I did this by lowering my pre tax contributions to my 401k (which the company is matching) and putting as much as I could into paying off this debt.

Now that the credit card debt is gone, II'm at a cross roads. I don't have a safety cushion for if I lose my job, and ideally I'd like 3 months worth of my salary in savings.

My question is: Do I build the nest egg first (3 months worth will take me 5 or 6 months) -or- do I put as much as I can into the 401k and build the nest egg slowly?
