I've recently been experiencing problems with 3 (the mobile network) basically they've referred my account to a debt collecting agency as they say i havent paid my bill, however when reviewing my bank statements the amount had actually gone out of my account a few weeks previous, they (3) have begun investigating where my money has gone, but say they need my bank details to investigate it properly.
however im slightly reluctant to as may/june time they took £120 out of my account without my permission as i told i was just setting up a direct debit!
Do they really need my bank details to investigate where my money has gone? I have a payment reference number!

I've already faxed a copy of my bank statement to them to show the amount has gone out, but they still say they need the account details (from the card i paid my bill with as paid it over the phone) to trace the money??

They are being very dense, how many people do they have that have your name, reference number, date of birth etc. I bet you are dealing with a cretin in a call centre. Write to head office and remind them that this account is paid and to call off the debt collectors. Also remind them that it is libel to claim you owe money when you don't. You have proof you paid, that should be enough even for them. Seek advice with the CAB, local Trading Standards or even run it past a solicitor (usually half hour free). I would check your credit file as well. You now want £120 back that they took without your permission plus other costs for phone calls to them, time inconvenience, etc. If this brings you no joy, issue court proceedings in the small claims court. The court staff are very helpful.

It's OK to give your bank details as they genuinely need it to trace the money, but instruct your bank NOT to accept direct debits or instructions to pay from this group. Therefore you have closed the door on them 'entering' your account and your bank will refuse any requests for payment.

Go on their website & explain your problem - WITHOUT giving your account details. Just give them your name & mobile number & the payment reference number. Failing that, go into a mobile phone shop on the High Street that deals with enquiries like yours. Or switch to another mobile provider.

pay attention of an business business enterprise soliciting for economic corporation information. I actually have heard that some identity thieves pose as employers to get your information and then have a grand time mutually with your identity. yet that's all rumour, I actually have not shown this with any authorities cyber web web site, FTC, FCC or something like that. the basically reason they should be asking is to confirm your Direct Deposit, in case you request it. you should basically might want to convey a void check out of your bank account. (assuming asker is interior the U.S. - do not recognize criminal criteria for different international places).

I wouldn't give them that information and I would start a new bank account and transfer all money over to that one so they will not be taking money out without your position. It is none of their business what you spend your money on.
