My friend got in way over his head with credit card debt. Now hes trying to get back on track and use only cash or money orders. He does landscaping on the side and is paid in cash. He then makes payments to his credit card companies via money orders. I told him the IRS may question where the money for the money orders is coming from. He says they dont. Am I right? Does the government question where the money for money orders comes from? Or is he right- they are harder to trace and that they dont question modest, regular payments?

I hate Bank of America, the fees are ridiculous, in fact, I hate banks period. Does anyone know of a good bank, how is Suntrust, or Regions, or US Bank? What do you think of credit unions or things like that.

to live off interest, suppose retirement.acct earns 7.5% interest compounded monthly for 30 years, and upon retirement the ending balance rolls into a simple interest earning 6%. The simple interest acct must earn $12,000/year to be sufficient to live off of. How much do I need to invest in the acct today to achieve this goal? (use simple interest formula first)

Not sure this formula would work, but can't figure it out:
A=P(1+r/n)^nt (^ = exponent)

Recently my PNC Bank checking account was overdrawn for 1 business day then a deposit I made cleared and it was ok again. I have never been overdrawn before. One check and one Visa check card transaction made it overdrawn, so the bank charged $31 for each item, totalling $62.

I plan to go talk to someone at the bank to see if they can erase the fees. What is my best approach to take with them?

For the record, I know that fees are the natural consequences of being overdrawn, I am not disputing that here. It know it's my own fault, but I'd still like to avoid $62.00 in fees -- that's a lot of money.

What can the govt do about the increasing personal debt? and what can financial institutions, such as banks who lend money, do about the ever-increasing personal debt in the UK?

When you apply for an unsecured personal loan, do they tend to contact your employer? I would rather my colleagues not know my financial situation thats all! I have previously had one from my own bank and they did not contact my employer.

Also anyone know where the cheapest rate can be found at the moment? And possibly any with three months deferred payments.

Thank you very much.

My Girlfriend has a £3,000 debt on credit cards and is getting to the stage where she can only pay off the interest each month and a 'card protection' and 'insurance' fee, so the £3,000 deficit remains (and gets worse).

I help her out now and again and she switches cards every year so they are interest free. Are there any helplines/ government bodies available for advice on how to combat such problems? Any Advice ? Thanks

(PS, please take this seriously, no "she should find a richer man" or "she should stop buying clothes". After all, these were my first two suggestions to her!)

If a company contacted you and said that they wanted to get wider results with their subscription team and would give you a free subscription to help them with it. Basically what they're saying is that you make the same money as everyone else on the team but without paying their membership fee every month. Would you think that this was a scam, as they aren't asking for your money?

I have a bank account at a fairly small credit union, and I am looking to deposit a check that I received into my bank account. I don't have access to the credit union's bank offices so I need to deposit it some other way. Should I send it to the bank via their PO Box, or can I deposit it at any ATM, or at any ATM where I don't get charged a fee (for withdrawals). Thanks in advance.

i have given her $1000 twice in the past two months. i am a truck driver and so i faxed a letter to my bank saying she could withdraw the money. im afraid she might just try walking into the bank and pretending like she has my authorization to make a withdrawel from my account.

also a few years ago she was my power of attorney.
also, she has my post office box key.
also, she might have the numbers on my atm card and probably has the numbers for my checking a and savings account.

she asked me to cosign for a loan today and i said no. im afriad she might forge my signature and destroy my credit. im afraid she might get a credit card in my name without my knowing.

im afraid she could do any number of things. she has done bad things in the past. ....what can i do to protect myself????
