I am going through a bankruptcy and debts, Inland Revenue, council parking fines for previously owned vehicles registered to home and other family addresses. Not to mention being chased by credit card companies, mobile phone etc. to whom I also owe money.

The baliffs came yesterday and threatened forced entry and removal of possessions. My parents told them I no longer lived there and nothing was in the house belonging to me. They were told that unless they pay (which they did on this occasion) property will be removed and the onus is completely on us to prove it does not belong to me.

Clearly its a very unhappy situation to have one's family drawn into one's independent financial circumstances (brought on by a failed business venture and poor health preventing me from taking a 'regular job' although I have never, neither will claim state benefit) I am considering bankruptcy and need to confront my creditors not least to stop my family being harassed. Anyone with experience?

As I contractor, I don't have a 401(k). However, I do make ok money. What I would like to do is find out what options I have to lower my overall tax burden AND contribute to an investment vehicle. I would hate to be taxed twice, and I wish there was something like a 401(k) that I could get into....

Can anybody tell me how to raise some extra cash? This is not avaricious, but due to personal circumstances I am this far <---> from bankruptcy. I already have 2 jobs, but have now been hammered by a tax bill and have no spare cash to pay it.

Current debt stands at £50,000 including 2 mortgages and the tax bill. I have done everything I should have - worked from the age of 17 and since 1999 (my divorce) been workign 80 hours a week.

Any ideas would be greatly appereciated.

Thanks.

OMG you guys!!! youre not gonna believe this!!
So, in my previous question, my checking account was mysteriously overdrafted negative -$102.80. i kept lookin at my statement and studying it and i know i didnt spend that much nor overdrafted it because i was keeping record of everything. i saw one item on my statement that said:
9/14/2006 depositied item returned..
i kept thinking..i didnt spend 50 bux on anything within the last few days so what could that be? i kept thinking and i just remembered that i babysat for this family that had money problems.. well, the mom took over 3 weeks in paying me for watching her two boys. she finally gave me a check last week for $50.00.. that is the only thing i can think of. her check bounced!!! now, my account is overdrafted because i spent money that i thought was there! the bank charged me $34 x3. should i have the woman pay me the 50.00 that bounced, or should i have her pay me wat bounced PLUS the overdraft fees it costed me?

I am mostly interested in how much people spend on average for 1 PERSON. So if you do not live alone, please adjust accordingly. It would also be helpful to provide your state (or country, if outside the US) of residence.

THANKS! =)

I should know this but i've somehow forgotten. How long does the bank recommend that you save your canceled checks? It seems like it is one year or could it be three years? I honestly don't remember. Thanks!
