I did pretty well investing in MAMA and sold half of my stocks for a nice return. The other half I am holding on to in hopes that MAMA will get a second life here. Am I wasting my money or do you think it might jump again sometime in the next couple weeks?

I'm actively trading some stocks through a personal account with an online brokerage, however, in the next few years I might cash out those stocks and buy into a mutual fund. Are there steps I can take now to limit my exposure to future taxes based on my plan? Steps such as purchasing the stocks through a specific type of account, retirement or some other type? I'm not familiar with taxes, so bear with me.

I am expecting to be in a higher tax bracket for the next 10 years (considerably higher). I intend on selling some mutual funds within the next 2 weeks (roughly $30K in gains). Should I take my gains this year while at a lower bracket or wait until January so I can postpone paying taxes on those gains until April 2008?

I'm negative on my return this year but I still have a few losses in the portfolio. I hear that I should sell them before the new year. Also, what is the typical logic in selling your losses before the year ends.
Thanks!

in the cipf it says that if the brokerage is holding the mutual fund for the customer and they go bankrupt then I am insured, but if the mutual fund is being held by the issuer of the mutual fund themselves then its not property of the brokerage and there is no cipf insurance. So on etrade when u buy mutual funds do they hold it for u or are u deal directly with the issuer? ALso if you deal direct with issuer does that mean its more dangerous since there is no protection? thanks let me know any help appreciated
