I have about $1500 dollars in I bonds. How do I know what the return is on them in about 20 years. What else should I invest in. I am a single 42 yr old RN with my kids on there own.
I have a 403B thru my employer with about $40,000 dollars in it and I make about $60, 000 a year. I contribute $300 a month to a credit union savings account, and I am not sure what the balance is on that, probably not more than $1200. I would like to make some investments somewhere, but not sure where to go from here. My home is paid for. It is a dump, but it is mine.

I want an investment opportunity, asset, or something that will double in less than a year. I am not looking to just bet "red" on the roulette wheel. Looking for some honest suggestions!

Is this true:
Values of outstanding bonds change whenever the going rate of interest changes.

If you buy a callable bond and interest rates decline, will value of your bond rise by as much as it would have risen if the bond had not been callable?

How can two bonds with similar maturity but differenct coupons yield so much differently given similar oas. for example. FHLB 4.25 1/15/10 with a 12/06 call yields 5.04% with a 55 oas. Then compare FHLB 5.30 1/12/10 with a 1/07 call yields 5.49% with a 66 oas. That's about 45bps difference in yield. How do I understand this?

Given a imaginary lump sum - say £200k - if you choose to invest in unit trusts over the long term and want to live off what it could produce. Would you be better investing in income trusts and taking the income or investing all in growth and selling lumps as its needed
(and maybe when the market is high).
