I got some money that I am going to need within a year time and I don't want to just put it in my bank (i think it has an interest of less than 1%). I heard some E-banks have rate up to like 4% now, is that true? is that something I should consider? are there other better vehicles? Thanks....

What type of CD should I look for. I shouldn't need the money for a least 6 months? Do you want to get a shorter term cd or a longer one? Should I use my bank (US Bank) or shop around? Any advice or references would be appreciated. thanks.

who sit next to the computer all day and trade stocks. When the stock is going down they buy it and when its going up they sell it. I was wondering if that is true that you can do all the trading on your computer without leaving home or asking some one elsse to do it. And if it is true, then is it available to everyone, or you have to be a broker. And if you don't have to be a broker, then how does it work?

So instead of paying a commission to purchase a stock through Ameritrade, is it ever possible to just purchase stock DIRECTLY from a corporation and then once the sale is complete, roll this stock into an Ameritrade IRA? (so in other words, the stock is purchased and NO other fees come into play, commission or otherwise.)

Yes, this is a beginners question, so go easy on me.

And yes, I already contacted Ameritrade about this, but as their answer might possibly be slanted, I thought I'd pose it here, so there is NO NEED to send me the doclink to Ameritrade.com, I know where to find it, thanks.
