It might be a result of genetic selection. During the middle ages the Catholic church discouraged money lending by Christians. That provided an opportunity for the Jewish community, which they took advantage of. They became lenders to anyone and everyone that needed money. Obviously, those that were good at it thrived and passed on their genes to their ancestors.

Whereas Christians on the other hand thrived on war and at persecuting Jews and passed on their genes. Somewhere along the line natural selection among the Christians resulted in Hitler.

Whereas natural selection among the Jews resulted in Rothchild.

They're no better than anyone else as a group. However, read on:

Several hundred years ago in most of Europe, money lending and it's associated activities were considered beneath the educated class. This was largely because of a couple of passages in the New Testament -- Christ tossing out the money changers at the Temple, etc.

Jews were often severely restricted in what they could do for a living. The aristocracy decided that money lending was worthy of the lowest classes -- primaily the Jews. Restricted to largely a single pursuit, they became expert at it. And they became very wealthy. Many of those old-line European Jewish families are still in the financial services business, either in Europe or having moved to the US or Israel.

Classic case of "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it."

There are plenty of poor Jews. That's a racist question. However, during the middle ages, Jews in Europe were not allowed to own property, so they collected money instead of real estate. That's how they became the bankers for Renaissance Europe.
