A friend of mine recommended buying whole life insurance for my child. He said it was better than investing elsewhere. For example, you can get a 1 million dollar insurance which will be paid up by the time he is 18 at an annual rate of about 4500$. And this money grows to over 5 million when is 65 and is tax free. Withdrawal can be done at any time. What's the catch?

I was recently laid off and need to file for unmployment insurance. However, I may have potential freelancing projects (keeping my fingers crossed). Is it possible to collect while freelancing or is that illegal? Technially I would not be fully employed, and it wouldn't be a huge amount of money... just something to get by. Thanks

My friend's employer swapped them to a new health insurance plan and has already started charging them the premiums even though there's no coverage yet. Some kind of "paperwork problems." He's about to get charged for the second nonexistent month of coverage. So that's $600 in the hole in return for... nothing.

Is there any way this could possibly be legal?

Of course he's already planning to talk to the local Labor department if he doesn't get a refund, but I thought I'd toss it out here too.

I live at my parent's house. My car was parked in their garage. A sewage drain(old house) busted and sent "stuff" over my car. It took the paint off the car. If my parents are going to file a claim, will it matter that I live in the house? Will they deny it because of that? I am not on the policy, so even though I'm related, I am legally like an outside person.
Anyone have additional advice on this issue? My parents don't want to pay and I don't want a car with diminished value. Thanks

I could essentially have the same provider for auto insurance all of my life. Why is health insurance so heavily linked to one's employer? It would much easier so have the same health insurance for years or decades so no worry about pre-existing conditions when changing employers and health plans. With more competition, rates would be lower. Employers could still offer employees some health insurance money to cover premiums as a benefit. I'm not advocating socialized medicine as I don't believe the gov't is very effecient at running any sort of program.

I just need answers with a vision to guide me at this juncture of my life. I'm going through a bad phase and always remain scared of losing my job in case another storm hits my place. Why should I spend for any insurance, when I know that under those circumstances its the social security income that would help me stay afloat ??

I had my baby Jan 3, 2.5 weeks early. I looked on the insurance website just a minute ago and they have denied everything that had to do with my hospital stay. Why and how can they do that. I am freaking out because my bill is close to 11000 dollars. She was breeched and I do not tried to have her turned. I had a c-section. I can not believe that they can do this. I usually get a provider discount from the hospital and I got no discount either.

This is so annoying, why are we forced to pay for benefits we don't need anymore. We were told that we have to wait until open enrollment until he can take me off of his plan. Benefits at my company are free to the employee, so atleast we don't have to pay two premiums.
