I was recently laid off and need to file for unmployment insurance. However, I may have potential freelancing projects (keeping my fingers crossed). Is it possible to collect while freelancing or is that illegal? Technially I would not be fully employed, and it wouldn't be a huge amount of money... just something to get by. Thanks

You can collect on the difference between what you WERE making working full time, and what you ARE making as a free-lancer. You just have to declare that income.

The previous answer is correct, tho your state may have some minor variation in their formula.

Altho many folks work a "cash" job & still collect unemployment benefits they have a word for that.........oh yeah!! It's called FRAUD.....Don't be tempted it's not worth the risk.

Freelancing is comparable to self employed, you're amassing monies for paintings which you have executed on your very own time. you won't be able to try this and are concern to consequences and fines in accordance to UI regulations.
