if my son, now 15, has a income of 10,000,and filing his own tax return, how does it have impact on my tax return?-can i claim him, if he opt not to claim on his tax return? would i be eligible to claim child tax credit?
if i am an illinois resident, how it affects on my state return? how much amt he would be paying state tax on?

i am eligible to claim him as a dependent, as i have supported him fully and living with me etc provided he dont claim.and if he dont claim on fed1040, he wont be able to claim on il1040 either.
the thing is which one best suites for a family as a whole. if he files his tax return, he would be paying tax on 5000$ @10%,considering he is not contributing to ira and not claiming himself as a dependent. whereas i would be saving tax of my bracket on 5000, but still eligible to claim him as adependent...so can reduce tax liability on3200$ by claiming his exemption.am i getting it right?

My Husband wants us to put more towards savings but i want to put more towards our debt. I will like to have to paid off asap. Right now we are putting 700-1200 towards debt a month. But with us putting that most towards debt it will be paid off the summer of 07. Should I cut it down or keep it the same? Also to note we do save each month but not that much as we would like.

scottish power sent me a statement of my account saying i was 400.00 in credit with them. i phoned them up to see how i claim it back and they said that the statement they sent me was invalid as my meter hadnt been updated in five years and that i was on the wrong tariff. they requested a new reading and contacted me a week later and said that the meter was definetly on the wrong setting and that i now owe them money a total of £155.39.do i have to pay this back or do i tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.they have been to my house to reset my meter to the new tariff or so i thought but they havent they set it slightly higher to reclaim the outstanding balance as well.where do i stand with these people as it was there mistake to begin with.please give me some answers as it is stressing me out.

Why don't the employers take those into consideration and hire people with a higher starting pay instead of a low pay of $8/hr or less which is just enough to pay the bills and not much to save??

I just started a job a month ago at a company that had an office where I used to live before I moved to this town. At the old office, I held a higher position than I have at the moment. But because my work is good, and I seem to know what I am doing, I was promoted last week. Now, however, there are quite a few people who have their nose out of joint because I was promoted so quickly even though I feel I do deserve it considering all the stuff I know and I know how to do almost every aspect of this job. I don't want to be discriminated against because of my knowledge but it is getting to me that people don't like me because of this but I don't want to give up my promotion (which, i said I deserve) just so people will like me. I am a nice person and if they would spend the time to get to know me, they would realize that and come to know that I am a great asset to the company. How can I handle their jealousy diplomatically?

Thanks
