I just started a job a month ago at a company that had an office where I used to live before I moved to this town. At the old office, I held a higher position than I have at the moment. But because my work is good, and I seem to know what I am doing, I was promoted last week. Now, however, there are quite a few people who have their nose out of joint because I was promoted so quickly even though I feel I do deserve it considering all the stuff I know and I know how to do almost every aspect of this job. I don't want to be discriminated against because of my knowledge but it is getting to me that people don't like me because of this but I don't want to give up my promotion (which, i said I deserve) just so people will like me. I am a nice person and if they would spend the time to get to know me, they would realize that and come to know that I am a great asset to the company. How can I handle their jealousy diplomatically?

Thanks

There are several things you need to try and do. First and foremost is give it some time, and demonstrate that you deserve the job and are capable. You cannot demand respect from your co-workers, you have to earn it. Meanwhile, remain friendly to everyone, and ignore the negatives you might be seeing and hearing. I truly believe that in time this problem will go away once and for all.

Smile, be friendly to everyone and do your job. They will come around eventually and if they don't? So what. Kill em with kindness and watch your back (for the jealous folks who are looking to sabotage you). Be friendly but never let your guard down.
