I have always used gel or cream type shaving cream, spread with my fingers to get a decent lather. I am reading about the benefits of using a shaving brush and would like to pick one up. The good ones are made of badger hair and start at about $30, with less expensive ones made of boar hair.
Wal-Mart carries a shaving brush for about $5, and I'm not sure what it's made of. Would this even be worth picking up to start out with, or should I go right for a good-quality one? Are they that much better?
Also, how do I use this brush with typical shaving gel or cream using the "mug" method? I would assume putting the cream in the mug, and then agitating with the soaked brush would be the best.
I welcome your suggestions. Thanks!
