I want to highlight my hair blond myself to save some $, but im worried it will look bad. Is it the dye or the stylist that are the reason it usually comes out better at the salon?

I had light-medium browns before (a while back).
Now I'm not really sure what to get.

My skin tone is pretty brown, like a really good tan. (Im naturally medium brown btw. lol I don't tan).

Should I do a medium brown tone? or would that ease into my black hair?
I don't want any outrageous colors (like purple, pinks, etc)

I like to wear the little headbands in my hair. My favorite thing to do with my hair is wear it in the pigtails right behind my ears, with my bangs crossing and wear a headband, but it always seems to fall out after a few hours and i have to re-put it in. How can I get the headband to stay in my hair until I choose to take it out?

Can someone Give me and Shampoo and conditioner that will help with straightness and shineyness? ( and give me a simple hairstyle not a dumb ponytail or pigtail or something.

I'm going to a dressy, very elegant restaurant for a party. I'm wearing a black dress (2 inches below knees, 3/4 sleeve, 2 layers) with white polka-dots on it. There is a lot of detailing on the top, so I'd like to wear my hair up to show it -- otherwise the dress is sort of just plain. I have thick dark brown VERY curly hair (but I could straighten it, I do it on a daily basis anyway), which goes down to about 4 inches past my shoulders. (My makeup will also be just lip gloss and a smokey eye with various shades of brown, ranging from deep chocolate to light beige... in case that matters.)

Please post pictures of hairstyles you would suggest, plus instructions on how to do so if they are available. I am very experienced in doing hair (plus I have a lot of time to practice), so it CAN be complicated/difficult to achieve the look. Thank you very much! The person who picks the best hairstyle for what I'm looking for will get 10 points for best answer.

My brother was watching my girls while their father was sleeping and I ran some errands. While he was making them their lunch, my oldest got into Vaseline. I was freaking out when I got home. Anyways, I have tried kids' shampoo, Pantene shampoo, soap, dishsoap and conditioner. This stuff is not coming out. Is there anything I can use to get it out of her hair?

Is there any ways to stimulate the hair natural oil? Does enhancing blood circulation helps?

My scalp is extremely dry and is causing dandruff problems. My hair don't even get oily after 4 days without washing; I only get more drandruff and itchy.

Without looking like a faux-pas?I tried getting chocolate/copper highlights and it looked horrible. This time I'm thinking of getting sandy-blonde highlights. The sad thing is that I'm a real brunette (my hair color and skin complexion resemble Catherine Zeta Jones') but I want a change.

I'm 5 foot 1, blonde with blue eyes at the moment.

www.myspace.com/x_mydecember - for pictures!

But I fancy a change. I've recently had the urge to dye my hair a dark brown - do you think this would suit me?

What sort of shade, if yes?

Anddddd, if you know anything about this sort of thing... How often do you need to dye your roots, on average - and can you do this at home well? About how much would it cost to dye my hair? And how hard would it be to go back to my shade of blonde, if i hated it?

=) xx
